Rajputi Poshak size guide
Every poshak we make is stitched to the person who will wear it. Here is how to take the measurements at home — wherever in the world you are — and what to send us.
A Rajputi Poshak has four pieces — the kurti, the kanchli, the ghaghra and the odhna. Three of them are cut to your body, so we need your measurements before anything is cut. If you are ordering from outside India, this page replaces the fitting you would otherwise come to Jaipur for.
Before you start
Three things that make the difference
Keep the tape snug against the body but not pulled tight. We add the ease a poshak needs when we cut — if you add it yourself, it gets added twice and the fit goes loose.
What to measure
The four pieces
Take each measurement twice. If the two readings differ, take a third.
Kanchli
The fitted inner blouse. It sits closest to the body, so this is the measurement to be most careful with.
- BustAround the fullest part of the chest, tape level all the way round and parallel to the floor.
- Under bustDirectly under the bust, where a fitted band would sit.
- ShoulderAcross the back, from the point of one shoulder to the other.
- ArmholeAround the top of the arm, through the armpit.
Kurti
The outer tunic worn over the kanchli, cut with the traditional neckline.
- BustSame as above — we cut the kurti with its own ease over the kanchli.
- WaistAt the natural waist, the narrowest point above the hip.
- Kurti lengthFrom the shoulder point straight down to where you want the kurti to end.
- Sleeve lengthFrom the shoulder point down the outside of the arm, elbow slightly bent.
- Sleeve roundAround the arm at the widest point, usually the upper arm.
Ghaghra
The pleated skirt. Length matters more here than anywhere else — a ghaghra that is even an inch long will drag, and one that is short reads as ill-fitting immediately.
- WaistWhere you will actually tie the ghaghra, which is often lower than the natural waist. Decide first, then measure there.
- HipAround the fullest part of the hip.
- Ghaghra lengthFrom where you tie it, straight down to the floor. Measure barefoot, then tell us the heel height you will wear — we add for it.
- HeightYour full height helps us check the length reading makes sense.
Odhna
The long veil. It is not cut to your body, so there is nothing to measure — but tell us how you plan to drape it, because that affects the length we send.

Worth avoiding
Where measurements usually go wrong
- Adding room “to be safe”We already add the ease a poshak needs. If you add it too, the fit comes out loose and the shape is lost.
- Measuring over heavy clothingA kurta or sweater can add two inches to the bust reading without you noticing.
- Copying numbers from a readymade labelA store size is not a body measurement. Take fresh readings from the body.
- Guessing the ghaghra lengthThe most common cause of a poshak needing alteration after it arrives. Measure barefoot and tell us the heel height separately.
- Mixing inches and centimetresPick one and use it for everything. Write which one at the bottom of the form.

Sizing questions
Can I order a Rajputi Poshak without giving measurements?
Do you offer standard or semi-stitched sizes as well as custom? If yes, say so and link to the size chart. If everything is made to measure, say that plainly.
How do I measure for a poshak if I am outside India?
Exactly as set out on this page — a soft tape, someone to help, and a fitted top. Or book a WhatsApp video call and we will take the measurements with you. Either way, nothing is cut until you confirm the numbers.
What if my measurements change before the wedding?
Tell us as early as you can. Once the fabric is cut there is a limit to what can be altered, particularly on a heavily worked bridal poshak.

Do you send the poshak stitched or unstitched?
Confirm which you offer. Several competitors ship unstitched, so if you stitch to measurement that is a genuine advantage worth stating here.
Can it be altered after it arrives?
Small adjustments can usually be made by a local tailor. Because gota patti and zardozi work runs across the seams on a bridal piece, larger changes are difficult once the handwork is done — which is why we confirm the measurements before cutting.

What bangle size should I order with my poshak?
Chuda and bangles are sized by inner diameter — 2.4, 2.6, 2.8 and so on. Measure a bangle that already fits you across the inside, or see our bangle size guide.
How long does a custom poshak take?
It depends on the fabric and how much handwork the piece carries. Message us with your date before ordering and we will confirm what is achievable.
