In short: Rajputi boor chuda — also written bur chuda — is the cream-white bridal bangle set worn by Rajput and Marwari brides in Rajasthan. It is turned from boor, a skin-friendly material with a hathi dant (ivory) finish, and contains no ivory. The bridal sets are the 7 cut (14 bangles) and 9 cut (18 bangles) dhalu; the plain 15 cut boor (30 bangles) is the everyday set. Sizes are 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8 inches.
The Material
What boor is
Boor is the material a Rajputi chuda is turned from. Cream-white and smooth, it carries the look of hathi dant — ivory — without ivory. It is skin-friendly, and a full set weighs only 250 to 300 grams, so it stays light on the wrist through the long days of a wedding.
Boor is the first thing that separates Rajputi bridal bangles from the red-and-white Punjabi chura. Different material, different tradition, different bride.
One Ornament, Many Names
Boor chuda, bur chuda, Rajputi chuda — the same bridal bangles
These bridal bangles are searched for under a dozen names, and they all point to the same set. The spelling changes with the language it is written in; the ornament does not.
- Boor chuda
- Bur chuda
- Bur chooda
- Rajputi chuda
- Rajasthani chuda
- Rajwadi chuda
- Marwadi chuda
- Dhalu / dhal uthar chuda
- Rajputi bangles
- Bridal choora
In Hindi it is written राजपूती चूड़ा, बूर चूड़ा or राजस्थानी चूड़ा — the same set, in Devanagari.
Boor and bur name the material. Rajputi names the community, Rajasthani the region, Rajwadi the royal style, and Marwadi the Marwar families who wear it. Dhalu, sometimes written dhal uthar, names the sloped shape the bangles are turned to. A Rajputi boor dhalu chuda is all of these at once.
The Craft
What dhalu is
Dhalu is the shape the bangles are turned to. In a dhalu chuda the bangles are graded from small to large across the set — each one changing in size and profile — so the chuda sits shaped to the arm rather than flat against it. It is what gives a Rajputi bridal set its form.
The 7 cut and 9 cut are dhalu sets. The 15 cut boor is not — it is plain, and every bangle in it is the same.
What a cut is
A cut is the number of bangles on each hand. A 7 cut chuda carries seven bangles on each wrist — fourteen in all. A 9 cut carries nine on each — eighteen in all. Four bangles more.
More bangles does not mean a costlier set. The 15 cut boor holds the most and costs the least, because it is plain. The bridal cuts hold fewer, but each bangle is heavier, worked in dhalu, and finished by hand. You are paying for the work, not the count.
The Bridal Sets
The bridal cuts — 7 and 9
Both are bridal sets. Both are dhalu, worked and finished by hand, and both come with a box and a Thikana Patra. The only difference between them is four bangles.

7 cut or 9 cut — which should a bride choose?
There is no rule. It is the bride’s choice. Both are worn as bridal sets, and neither is more correct than the other.
The nine cut sits fuller and carries higher up the forearm. The seven cut sits lighter and leaves more of the arm bare. Some brides want the arm full; some want it quieter. That is the whole of the decision — four bangles, ₹500, and what she wants to see on her hand.

Everyday and Festive
15 Cut Boor — the everyday set
The 15 cut boor is not a bridal set. It carries fifteen bangles on each hand — thirty in all, the most of any set — and it is the plain boor chuda, worn through the year at festivals, at family functions, at home. No dhalu work, no box.

What ₹600 adds
We do not print a struck-through price. The difference between the Box set and the Complete set is plain: ₹600 adds a juti and a potli. The chuda, the box and the Thikana Patra are the same in both.
The juti and the potli are made for the set. They are not sold apart from it.
Worn Together
What the chuda is worn with
A Rajputi bride’s hands are only part of the look. The chuda is worn over the sleeve of the Rajputi poshak — kanchli, kurti, ghaghra and odhna — and set against Pachi Kundan jewellery: the borla at the forehead, the aad at the throat, the bajuband on the arm.
If you are choosing the poshak and the jewellery together, tell us the colour and the wedding date on WhatsApp. We will match the set for you before anything ships from Jaipur. If you are still learning the names of the pieces, start with Rajasthani jewellery names.
With Every Bridal Set
The Thikana Patra
Under the princely states, a Rajput family’s estate was its thikana. Sikar held four hundred and twenty-six villages. Lambiya, Minda, Ransigaon, Pipla — each was a seat, each held by a Thakur, each with its own line.
Marriages were recorded thikana to thikana. Married to the daughter of Thakur Padam Singh of Thikana Minda, Nagaur. The joining of two families was the joining of two estates.
With every bridal chuda, we send a Thikana Patra — a scroll on handmade paper, bound with a gota patti ribbon, carrying the history of the estate the bride’s family comes from. Written for her family. Verified before it is written. Approved by her before it is sent.
Two we have written.
Thikana — Pokhran
Marwar · Champawat Rathore · Under Jodhpur
The jagir of Pokhran was granted to Thakur Maha Singh in 1729 by Maharaja Abhay Singh of Jodhpur. The line is Champawat Rathore, descended from Rao Champa. Its Thakur was counted among the eight premier nobles of Marwar — the sirayats, who held the forts and raised the troops for the Maharaja. Above the town stands Balagarh, the fourteenth-century fort of yellow sandstone, on the edge of the Thar.
Thikana — Sikar
Shekhawati · Shekhawat · Under Jaipur
Sikar was the largest of the Shekhawati estates — four hundred and twenty-six villages under one seat. The city was founded in 1687 by Rao Daulat Singh, son of Rao Jaswant Singh of Kasli. The line runs back to Rao Shekha, from whom the Shekhawats take their name, and further back still to the Kachwahas of Amer.
Every patra is verified against the records — indianrajputs.com, rajput.digital, and the family’s own — and sent to the bride’s family for approval before it is written.
If a bride’s family does not hold a thikana, she receives the Karni Creations Patra instead — the story of the craft, the hands and the house her chuda was made in, written in her name.
Every bride receives a story. Each one her own.
Two Traditions
Rajputi chuda is not Punjabi chura
Both are bridal bangles, both are searched for in the same words, and they are not the same thing.
| Feature | Rajputi Boor Chuda | Punjabi Chura |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Boor — hathi dant finish | Plastic or lac |
| Colour | Cream-white, ivory | Red and white |
| Worn by | Rajput and Marwari brides | Punjabi and Sikh brides |
| Who puts it on | The women of the family | The bride’s maternal uncle |
| Worn for | Up to a year — the family decides | Commonly 40 days to a year |
The chuda ceremony is its own occasion in a Rajput household, and in Hindu families across Rajasthan. The women of the family put the chuda on the bride — mother, aunts, sisters, the women who raised her. It is not a small moment, and it is not the same moment as the Punjabi chura ceremony, where it is the bride’s maternal uncle who puts on the chura.
If a bride is Rajput or Marwari, the boor chuda is the one her family will recognise. For the rest of the bridal jewellery that goes with it — borla, aad, bajuband, haathphool — see our guide to Rajasthani jewellery names.
Sizes 2.4 · 2.6 · 2.8
Finding the size
Boor chuda comes in three sizes: 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8. The number is the inner diameter of the bangle in inches. Sizes outside these three — 2.2, 2.10 or anything in between — are made to order.
- Press your thumb to your little finger, as if you were sliding a bangle on.
- With a tailor’s tape, measure around the widest part of your hand — over the knuckles, thumb tucked in.
- Divide that measurement in inches by 3.14. The number you get is your bangle diameter.
- Match it to the nearest size — 2.4, 2.6 or 2.8. If you have a bangle that already fits well, measure its inner diameter instead; that is the surest way.
Not sure? Send us a photo of the wrist on WhatsApp and we will tell you the size. If none of the three fit, we will make it to your measurement.

The Workshop
Who makes your chuda
Karni Creations works out of Jaipur, with artisans who turn boor by hand — the same hands that make our Rajputi poshak and our Pachi Kundan jewellery. A bridal chuda is not moulded in a run of a thousand. Each set is turned, graded and finished for the size it was ordered in, and checked before it goes into the box.
If you want to see the work before you order, ask for a video call. We will show you the set in the workshop.
Before You Order
Exchanges — please read before you order
We do not offer refunds, and we do not exchange for a change of mind. What we do exchange is a size that does not fit, and a chuda that arrives broken.
Both need an unboxing video. Record the parcel from the moment it reaches your hand, sealed, to the moment the chuda is out of the box — one unbroken take, showing the parcel opened and closed. Boor is a delicate material, and the video is how we tell a fault in the making or the transit from a fault in the handling.

The material
What is boor?
Boor is the traditional material Rajputi chuda is turned from. It is cream-white and smooth, and carries the look of hathi dant — ivory — without ivory. It is skin-friendly and light, and it is what gives Rajputi chuda its distinct colour and finish.
What is bur chuda?
Bur chuda and boor chuda are the same thing — the spelling changes, the ornament does not. It is the cream-white Rajputi bridal bangle set turned from boor, worn by Rajput and Marwari brides. You will also see it written bur chooda, and sold as Rajputi, Rajasthani, Rajwadi or Marwadi chuda.
Is boor chuda made of real ivory?
No. Boor only carries the look of hathi dant. No ivory is used in a boor chuda. The finish is achieved in the material and in the hand-turning, not in the source.
Is boor chuda skin-friendly?
Yes. Boor is skin-friendly and is worn against the wrist for days at a time through a wedding without irritation.
What is the difference between boor and seep chuda?
Both boor and seep carry a hathi dant, or ivory, look, and both are used in Rajputi chuda. Karni Creations makes its chuda in boor.
How heavy is a boor chuda set?
A full Rajputi boor chuda set weighs 250 to 300 grams. It is light enough to wear through the long days of a wedding.
The cuts
What is a cut in bridal chuda?
A cut is the number of bangles on each hand. A 7 cut chuda carries seven bangles on each wrist, fourteen in all. A 9 cut carries nine on each, eighteen in all.
How many bangles are in a 7 cut chuda?
Fourteen. Seven bangles on each hand.
How many bangles are in a 9 cut chuda?
Eighteen. Nine bangles on each hand — four more than a 7 cut.
What is the difference between 7 cut and 9 cut chuda?
Four bangles. The 7 cut has seven on each hand, fourteen in all; the 9 cut has nine on each, eighteen. The nine cut sits fuller and carries higher up the forearm. The seven cut sits lighter. Neither is more correct — it is the bride’s choice.
Should I choose 7 cut or 9 cut?
There is no rule. Both are bridal sets. Choose the 9 cut if you want the arm full; choose the 7 cut if you want it quieter. The difference is four bangles and ₹500.
What is dhalu chuda?
Dhalu — sometimes written dhal uthar — is the shape the bangles are turned to. In a dhalu chuda the bangles are graded from small to large across the set, each one changing in size and profile, so the chuda sits shaped to the arm rather than flat against it. It is what gives a Rajputi bridal set its form.
Is 15 cut boor a dhalu chuda?
No. The 15 cut boor is plain — every bangle in it is the same size. Only the 7 cut and 9 cut are dhalu, graded from small to large across the set.
How many bangles are in a 15 cut boor chuda?
Thirty. Fifteen bangles on each hand — the most of any Rajputi chuda set.
Is 15 cut boor a bridal chuda?
No. The 15 cut boor is the everyday set — fifteen bangles on each hand, thirty in all, in plain boor with no dhalu work. It is worn through the year at festivals and family occasions. The bridal sets are the 7 cut and 9 cut dhalu.
Why is the 15 cut cheaper when it has more bangles?
Because it is plain. The 15 cut boor carries thirty bangles but has no dhalu work. The bridal cuts hold fewer — fourteen or eighteen — but each bangle is heavier, worked in dhalu, and finished by hand. The price follows the work, not the count.
Rajputi, Rajasthani, Rajwadi, Marwadi, Punjabi
What is the difference between Rajputi chuda and Punjabi chura?
Rajputi chuda is made of boor, is cream-white with a hathi dant finish, and is worn by Rajput and Marwari brides. Punjabi chura is red and white, made of plastic or lac, and is worn by Punjabi and Sikh brides. They are different objects from different traditions, and they are often searched for in the same words.
Are Rajputi, Rajasthani, Rajwadi and Marwadi chuda the same thing?
They overlap. Rajasthani chuda names the region. Rajputi names the community. Marwadi names the Marwar families who wear it. Rajwadi names the royal style. A Rajputi boor dhalu chuda is all of them at once.
Can a bride who is not Rajput or Marwari wear a boor chuda?
Yes. Brides from every background wear Rajputi boor chuda. The Thikana Patra is written for families that hold a thikana; every other bride receives the Karni Creations Patra, written in her name.
Who puts the chuda on the bride?
The women of the family — mother, aunts, sisters. In a Rajput household, and in Hindu families across Rajasthan, the chuda ceremony is an occasion of its own. It is not the same as the Punjabi chura ceremony, where the bride’s maternal uncle puts on the chura.
How long does a bride wear her boor chuda?
Up to a year. There is no fixed number of days — how long the chuda is worn is decided by the bride and her family, and it varies from house to house.
Is it spelled chuda, chura or chooda?
All three. The word is written differently across Hindi, Rajasthani and Punjabi, and it is the same ornament. Chuda, chura, chooda and choda all name it.
The Thikana Patra
What is a thikana?
A thikana was the estate of a Rajput Thakur under the princely states. Each thikana held villages, a seat, and its own line of descent. Sikar held four hundred and twenty-six villages. The jagirdari system was abolished in 1952, but the families and their names remain.
What is the Thikana Patra?
A scroll on handmade paper, bound with a gota patti ribbon, sent with every bridal chuda from Karni Creations. It carries the history of the estate the bride’s family comes from. It is verified against records and sent to the family for approval before it is written.
What if my family does not hold a thikana?
You receive the Karni Creations Patra instead — the story of the craft and the house your chuda was made in, written in your name. Every bride receives a story.
Price, size and delivery
How much does a Rajputi bridal chuda cost?
A 7 cut boor dhalu chuda costs ₹3,499 with a box and Thikana Patra. A 9 cut costs ₹3,999. The Complete sets, which add a juti and a potli, are ₹4,099 and ₹4,599. The plain 15 cut boor is ₹599.
Where can I buy Rajputi bridal bangles online in India?
Karni Creations makes boor chuda in Jaipur and sends it across India — order from this page, or message us on WhatsApp and we will show you the set on a video call before it ships. Delivery is up to 8 days within Rajasthan and up to 10 days elsewhere in India.
What size of boor chuda should I order?
Boor chuda comes in 2.4, 2.6 and 2.8 — the inner diameter of the bangle in inches. Press your fingers together, measure around the widest part of your hand with a tape, and divide by 3.14 — that number is your diameter. If none of the three fit, we make it to your measurement.
Can I get a size other than 2.4, 2.6 or 2.8?
Yes, made to order. Sizes like 2.2 or 2.10 are turned to your measurement. Send us the measurement on WhatsApp and we will make it. It adds [X] days.
Is the juti colour-matched to the chuda?
No. The juti in the Complete set is chosen to sit with the chuda, not to copy it.
Do you deliver outside Rajasthan?
Yes. We send across India from Jaipur. Delivery takes up to 8 days within Rajasthan and up to 10 days elsewhere in India. Cash on delivery is arranged case by case — ask us on WhatsApp.
Can I see the chuda before it ships?
Yes. We show it on a video call — the cut, the finish, the weight in the hand — before it leaves Jaipur.
Is cash on delivery available?
Cash on delivery is arranged case by case. Ask us on WhatsApp before you order.
Can I return a boor chuda?
No. We do not offer refunds, and we do not exchange for a change of mind. We do exchange a size that does not fit and a chuda that arrives broken, and both need an unboxing video.
What if the size does not fit?
We will exchange it. You will need an unboxing video — one unbroken take showing the sealed parcel opened and the chuda taken out.
What if the chuda arrives broken?
We will exchange it. Send us the unboxing video on WhatsApp the day it arrives and we will send a replacement.
Why do you need an unboxing video?
Boor is a delicate material. The video is how we tell a fault in the making or the transit from a fault in the handling. Record the parcel from the moment it reaches your hand, sealed, to the moment the chuda is out of the box.
How do I care for a boor chuda?
Take it off at night, carefully, before you sleep, and keep it in its box when it is off. Avoid heavy work while wearing it. Boor is light, but it is not made to be knocked about — treated gently, a chuda keeps its finish through the year.
